Highly recommend Tristan and Boatwise to get your boat training! The booking process was super smooth, Tristian communicated with us multiple times before the course to ensure we were prepared well. Dave, our instructor for the day, was incredibly professional and friendly. He was a wealth of information and a highly skilled boarder. We were out on a very cold and windy September Sunday, Dave made sure that we learnt our basic boat skills in that choppy water in an amazing way. We did this training as a family - 2 adults and our 13 year old. There were 2 others with us doing the course. Everyone had a go (sometimes multiple times) to make sure we had learnt that particular skill (parking, mooring, anchoring, etc) and despite the horrid weather, we had a boat load of fun 😁. Thanks a tonne, Dave! Tristian followed up the next day on how we go about getting our boat license. 👍🏼 Tristian and Dave both mentioned that they'd be willing to help out with boat questions in the future, a huge thank you for the lovely service! In all, we are very glad we went with Boatwise. There are a lot of choices out there, you will absolutely NOT go wrong with Boatwise!

Tristan is extremely good at teaching everything you need to know to drive a boat from the ground up. In four hours he had me anchoring, mooring, driving confidently on the harbour and reverse parking at the marina, when I’d never previously driven a boat. Can’t wait for my next lesson!

Practical on Water, assessment and training.
Then you’ll receive your Registered Boat Licence after the course

Course Format
The course is continually assessed, so there is no written examination. Your instructor will assess your skills and knowledge throughout the day.
Assessment
The Pre-Study Handbook takes about 1-2 hours to complete at home at your own pace, and the practical component takes about 4-5 hours on Sydney Harbour with our highly experienced instructors.
Certification
Once you have successfully passed the course, you will receive an electronic certificate via email. You will need to print this out in a PDF format and take it to Service NSW or Maritime head office in Rozelle to pay the government fees and obtain your official boat licence.

We've had some excellent individual and group lessons from Tristian and Dave over the last 3+ months. What started off as very hesitant and accident prone boating, has now become much more confident and with the entire family passed our boating license too. Couldn't have done it without you guys.
Not only a beautiful day out on the water, but incredibly information boat licence course with Alan. Thank you Alan for taking my family and I through all the safety and logistical requirements of the boat licence course. We had a lot of fun during the process and left feeling like we had picked up a lot of useful information in a way that was easy to understand and replicate. Looking forward to our private lessons with Tristan in the near future!
Tristian was great, he taught us so much in a span of less than 3 hours on our boat. He showed what was most important about boat safety and to manoeuvre our first large vessel. Highly recommend Tristian and Boat wise.
Had a great lesson with Tristian learning how to adapt to driving a dual engine boat. It was very helpful and I learned a lot. Tristian was calm and patient and he explained and demonstrated things well. Money well spent.
Back in late 22 and jan 2023 I was new to larger cruisers and needed to master the skills and confidence required to return my 42ft cruiser to its birth down a narrow fairway at my Mariner in range of wind conditions . My first attempt without training and before lessons with Tristian Mooney were incredibly stressful . I needed our dockmaster in the tender to assist and felt other owners running to protect their precious boats . I also was blessed to have two young strong family men onboard to fend me off other stationary vessels . Incredibly stressful. I made a pack with myself that I must get professional guidance and training to master the skills required . I have successfully returned to my birth now 88 times … sometimes perfectly but there are different challenges as Every time the wind and the tides are different . Thanks to the skills shared by Tristian Mooney of BOAT Wise and the videos I captured in my lessons I have Tristian over my shoulder as I approach my fairway and berth. I highly recommend Boatwise . Boat Captain's must master many different skills and procedures.Boat Wise training with Tristian Mooney will give you the skills and confidence you need to arrive back home at your berth safely .
Tristan from Boatwise is very patient, kind and very friendly. He has built up my skills and confidence in boating, he taught me how to berth, approach the fuel wharf, pick up a mooring, and most importantly I was finally able to understand the underlying principals behind how wind affects the boat's behaviour under different circumstances. I think it's 100% money well spent and makes boating much more pleasurable and less stressful at the same time. Thank you again Tristan 🙏🙏
